How to use "needn't"

नियम १

needn't हा शब्द म्हणजे need + not या दोन शब्दांचे संक्षिप्त स्वरूप (short form) आहे.

need या शब्दाचा मराठी अर्थ गरज असणे असा आहे.

नियम २

इंग्रजीमध्ये need ची पर्यायी रचना म्हणून necessary for / necessity for यांपैकी एखादा शब्दसमूह देखील वापरता येतो.

नियम ३

need + not या दोन शब्दांतील नुसत्या need या शब्दाला इंग्रजी व्याकरणात To चे Verb असे म्हणतात.

नियम ४

जेव्हा need हे वाक्यामध्ये To चे Verb म्हणून वापरतात, तेव्हा ते वाक्याच्या Tense प्रमाणे need / needs / needed अशा स्वरूपात वापरलेले असते.

नियम ५

परंतु, needn't, म्हणजे need + not या दोन शब्दांचा short form, जेव्हा वाक्यामध्ये वापरलेला असतो, तेव्हा या short form मधील need ला To चे Verb असे न म्हणता Semi Modal (सेमी मोडल) किंवा Anomalous Finite (अॅनॉमलस फायनाईट) असे म्हणतात.

नियम ६

needn't हे Anomalous Finite असल्यामुळे त्याला Tense चे बंधन नसते.

हा short form जसा Present Tense चा समजला जातो, तसाच तो Past Tense चा देखील समजण्यात येतो.

Past Tense ची रचना करताना त्याला ed हा प्रत्यय लावण्याची आवश्यकता नसते.

नियम ७

needn't ची पर्यायी रचना पुढीलप्रमाणे करता येते.

It is/was not necessary  +  for ने सुरू होणारी Adverb Phrase  +  Infinitive

There is/was no necessity  +  for ने सुरू होणारी Adverb Phrase  +  Infinitive

• It is not necessary for me to take so much trouble.

• I needn't take so much trouble.

Ex. 2

• There is no necessity for us to leave so soon.

• We needn't leave so soon.

Ex. 3

• There was no necessity for them to pay for meals.

• They needn't pay for meals.

Ex. 4

• It was not necessary for the Prince to think of wars and victories any longer.

• The Prince needn't think of wars and victories any longer.

Ex. 5

• It is not necessary for us to wait for our visitors as they have cancelled their visit.

• We needn't wait for our visitors as they have cancelled their visit.

Ex. 6

• There is no necessity for them to spend so much money on furniture.

• They needn't spend so much money on furniture.
